Dear President Trump,
The Afrikaners of Orania take note of and are thankful for the sense of urgency with which president Trump acted with regards to the declaration from the Whitehouse: “Addressing Egregious Actions of The Republic of South Africa”.
Orania and its people offer thoughtful and constructive contributions to this discourse and the broader conversation. Our message to the U.S. government, should they intend to support us, can be summarized in three words:
HELP US HERE.
Helping us doesn’t mean US tax dollars, but rather recognition of our legitimate efforts towards Afrikaner self-determination. Recognizing Afrikaners as an ethnic people in own right leads to the need to recognize a sustainable solution – an autonomous territory for Afrikaners.
We’ve built Orania specifically as a place and foothold for such an autonomous territory over the past 30 years. In the 1990’s, the South African government signed an accord on Afrikaner self-determination and declared in Parliament that such an autonomous territory is a legitimate pursuit by Afrikaners. What we ask for, we also wish for other people with the same ideals.
We appreciate sentiments of support. We will build here, and we ask of the White House for recognition here.
Our highest ambition is not to be relocated, but to be free.
May this become a reality through the grace of God and the support of our friends.
With appreciation,
Orania Movement
